Battlebit Early Access Launch

A deceptively simple-looking shooter that is a whole lot of fun in a setting that is deep yet hard to take serious, which is one of the main reasons I’ve taken to it.

Falling Frontier: Coming soon

I randomly came across the newest gameplay demo and based on that video alone had to find out everything I could about this game that seems to hold an incredible amount of promise.

40k Boltgun: First Impressions

Some might call it an eyesore but I call it beautiful- the retro graphics and 2D sprites offer a glimpse for newer gamers to look through a portal (don’t look too closely, or else the inquisitor will want a word) into the games that spawned the FPS genre.

Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom First Impressions

A follow up to the legendary Breath of the Wild has been a long time coming, even disregarding the fact that the Zelda series is usually not one to dwell on games and instead moves on to another new and unique title. In knockout after knockout of successful Zelda games, does Tears break this tradition?

Outer Wilds Review

What happens when you create a game that has a beautiful, open-ended solar system with no hand holding and nothing to push you along other than your own burning curiosity? You get the exploration adventure masterpiece that is Outer Wilds.

Preview: Planet Coaster

As Roller Coaster Tycoon World looks like it won’t be a true successor to that throne, Planet Coaster hopes to topple the franchise and usurp the title. Can it become the new king of tycoon games?

How I Review

A game is broken down into 7 major categories which are individually scored and totaled for the final review score. Each category has a set weighting (between 10 and 20 points) based on what I think is most important for a game. For example, the Graphics and Sound category is more important (and therefore holds more weight in the overall score) than the Challenge Level category.

Gameplay
One of the most important aspects… how does it play? Are there new, exciting game mechanics? Is the gameplay just rehashed from a previous game? What do you do in the game? What makes it interesting?
Graphics & Sound
How does the game look? How does it sound? Is the artwork unique? Is it cutting edge? Is it a copy-cat?
Controls
How intuitive are the controls? Are they easy to learn? Do they make you want to bash your head?
Immersion
Is there a rich game world and background story to the game? Does it make sense? Would I want to be there? Do I get lost in the game and lose track of time?
Replayability
How many times can I play this game before becoming bored? Is it a one-time through storyline or offer endless amount of gameplay?
Challenge Level
Is the game difficult? Does it hold your hand the entire game or do you have to learn on your own? Is there a steep learning curve? How is the tutorial? Is there no guidance?
Fun Level
Easiest category… Is the game fun!? How repetitive is it? Are there times where it is boring or drags on?
Overall Score
Taken from totaling all 7 categories, the total score out of 100 gives the best idea of the final game.
